A few months ago I made a post with some of the albums that've come out this year that I've enjoyed and albums I'm looking forward to later on. Well, it's been a while since then so I thought I'd make an addendum to that post.
The following are totally awesome albums that have come out this year that I've obtained and thoroughly enjoyed:
Gazpacho - Tick Tock Mastodon - Crack the Skye Maudlin of the Well - Part the Second Nemo - Barbares OSI - Blood Riverside - Anno Domini High Definition Steven Wilson - Insurgentes
Albums that have come out this year that turned out to be a disappointment:
Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
The following are albums scheduled to come out this year that I'm eagerly waiting for:
Anathema - Horizons (? 2009) Porcupine Tree - The Incident (Sept. 21, 2009) |

| | Riverside - Reality Dream III | ] | And now for something a little different. The entertainment room in my house is pretty much done and ready for some hardcore chillinz... assuming that ever happens. *ahem* I've got a couch in there now, and since it's a futon it'll also double as a bed for people spending the night. There's only a couple of final little touches that I'm probably going to take care of tomorrow, such as getting a small coffee table to put in the middle of the room for people to set drinks/food/whatnot.
Now I just need to actually have some people over for a change. |

| | accomplished | ] | Okay. So. I have a lot to write! Let's start things off with Katsucon; it was pretty awesome. It was my first chance to go out and hang with people in a while. I had a great time overall, despite the fact that I got really sick after the first day I got there and spent a good chunk of the weekend not being able to speak.
Next, there's been quite a bit of restructuring going on in my house as of late. My sister Angie moved out of the house, and as a result there's a lot of free space in the house now. I was given the master bedroom after she moved out, in addition to keeping my old bedroom.
Since our living room is pretty much nonexistent for having company over (unless you want to just sit around and have a thumb twiddling contest or something), I'm transforming my old bedroom into an entertainment room and using the master bedroom as my actual bedroom (and/or place to do schoolwork and stuff). It's all still a work in progress, but it's coming along pretty nicely. I was up until the wee hours of the morning last night cleaning and moving furniture in the new entertainment room. It went from being the desecrated remains of my old bedroom to something functional and useful. Not to mention the fact that I spent a great deal of time scrubbing and vacuuming the carpet and cleaning off the furniture to make everything as clean and new-looking as I could. The only thing missing at this point is a couch for people to sit and chill. Luckily for me, Shelby's mom just happens to be getting a new bed soon, and offered to give me her old futon free of charge. That not only means that I'll have a couch for the entertainment room, but that the room will also be able to double as a guest bedroom for when there are people spending the night. It'll be nice to finally be able to have friends over without it being overly cramped and then having nowhere for them to sleep.
For my bedroom I bought a small-sized desk to house my laptop and provide an area to work on schoolwork. I'm also going to be getting a new (queen-sized) bed soon too, which is all kinds of awesome. In the meantime I've got my old mattress and box spring just kind of lying on the floor. My old bed frame had built in drawers for clothes and stuff, and I was worried that once I got a new bed I'd also have to buy a dresser, but that doesn't seem like it's going to be the case. The master bedroom closet has a bunch of racks and stuff built into it, which so far has worked perfectly for housing all of my clothes.
Here's a quick list of things I still need to get (for personal reference):
- A couple of end tables to put on either side of my bed
- A tall floor lamp for the bedroom
- An over-the-door shoe organizer to put game controllers in (heh)
- Zip ties for cable organization

| | Anathema - Closer | ] | Happy belated new year everyone. :D Hope yours was as good as mine!
So what's up? Not a whole lot has been going on. I went up to Re's dorm for a little new year's eve get together. Spent a good chunk of the night chillin', eating junk food, playing vidjamagames and even a game of Pokemon monopoly. xD 'Twas pretty awesome.
Other than that, the usual goodness with a few little surprises thrown into the mix. My main computer up and died about a week ago, and I was up all night that night trying to fix it (that's what my last post was about in case you were wondering :P). Through a series of little experiments, I figured that my motherboard was fried, so I ended up shelling out a hefty fine for a new one. I was originally going to buy a desk with the money I used to buy it, but I guess that's not going to happen now. Oh well. :(
Anyway, other than that, there's the usual chillinz with Shelby, and I had Tommy over last night. Tommy and I watched Resident Evil Degeneration and played some Castle Crashers. Epicness all around the board. |

So Christmas was pretty rad. Spent all of Christmas Eve and Christmas with Shelby and my family, which was awesome. There was food, scrabble, and other merry little events. I got a pretty hefty amount of presents, too. Mind you I would have been satisfied with 1/10th the number of presents I got, but I am incredibly grateful for my parents' kindness. Anyway, here's what I got:
- Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22" Widescreen computer monitor
- Logitech Z-2300 2.1 Speaker System
- Western Digital 320GB portable hard drive
- A 100-pack of CD-Rs
- Some clothes
- XBOX 360 - Gears of War 2
- XBOX 360 - Fable 2
- PC - Left 4 Dead
- PC - Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
- DVD - The Dark Knight
- DVD - Wall-E
- Uhmm... anything else I may have missed.
From Shelby I got a framed painting of the two of us. :D I love it so much <3 She also gave me a bunch of office supplies in the stocking she made me for Christmas. Caught me off guard (I was expecting a bunch of candy, rofl), but it's still awesome nonetheless. |

For some inexplicable reason, it's started to hurt a great deal for me to lift my right arm above a certain point. I remember having the same exact problem after the whole mugging incident a few months ago. I don't know if it's because of that, or if it's something else that happened. If it is, I don't know why it would start acting up again three months later. If it's unrelated, then I can't think of any possible cause. Gahhh, pain hurts. :| |

| | lonely | ] | I've got this feeling inside me... don't feel too good.
Work tonight was hectic as hell. I was stuck in the electronics section all day, which is of course the busiest section of the store. I dedicated the first three quarters of my day to doing nothing but helping out "guests" (target's absurd name for customers). As soon as I came in, I was told that the crew responsible for setting the ad had not put up any of the signs for either the toy section or all of electronics. At first I was tasked with putting up the signs, but I was too busy helping guests to do anything else, so I ended up completely abandoning that plan. I actually didn't mind the sheer business of the store that much, because it gave me something to do. It wasn't until after the store traffic died down that things started to get rough, though. Before I knew it, it was an hour before store closing and nothing was done. We ended up having to stay until way past midnight in order to get a good chunk of the reshop done, and there was still a lot when we left. HORRIBLE.
I could do with some fresh air... can't breathe too well.
In other news, I have four days off in a row, starting tomorrow. As far as days off are concerned, I'm torn. I need the hours, but at the same time, I love actually having some time to do whatever the hell I please without having to worry about going to work. Eh, whatever. It doesn't matter. Does anyone wanna do something?
I'm perfectly fine, but... I just need to lie down. |

| | Dream Theater - I Walk Beside You | ] | I thought I'd start the spring cleaning season off a few months early and actually do something with my room. I always talk about cleaning it, and I usually do get some cleaning done, but it doesn't usually last. That's been a huge problem for me, and I haven't really done much in the way of preventing recurring instances of extreme messiness. This time around, however, I've taken a few steps towards hopefully consistent cleanliness. I got rid of my old and decrepit DVD shelf, and bought a couple of wall-mounted shelves. They're sturdier for one, and they give me a good amount more space for storage. In addition, I also bought one of those cheap-o plastic drawer cabinet thingies, which I'm using to house my many game controllers and miscellaneous computer cables, amidst other garbage. I also bought a new trash can to replace the rather gross one I had been using before.
The great thing here is, it didn't even leave a dent in my funds at all! In the process of cleaning my room, I collected a ton of random video games and such that I no longer had use for and sold them, which got me a good $120 or so dollars. Yipee. It kills two birds with one stone, because I got some money, PLUS I freed up quite a bit of space from selling all that old junk.
Also, and this is more of an organizational thing rather than a cleanliness thing, I bought a calendar whiteboard thing to keep better tabs on my work schedule, paydays, due payments, etc. It's pretty awesome. Blah.
Work has been quite the pain lately. You'd think that during the winter season they'd be giving me a ton of hours, but it seems like it's been the exact opposite; they've been cutting hours like crazy. For instance, I only worked ONE day last week. Next week I have four days off in a row, and another three days off in a row the week after. Needless to say, my next couple of paychecks are going to be pretty lousy. I was starting to get used to having $400 paychecks, and now it looks like I'm gonna have to start getting used to only having half that. Laaame. :(
I've been feeling pretty meh for the last week or so. I'm not really sure why. Maybe a light case of Seasonal Affective Disorder? I don't know. I don't really feel like myself right now.
The final for my English class is right around the corner, as is the deadline for paying for spring classes. I'm pretty upset that I'm only going to be able to take one class, but that's really all I am financially able to take right now. As for my final, I'm writing an essay on internet piracy, and how companies' attempts to curb illegal downloading by incorporating restrictive Digital Rights Management schemes (see Spore for an all too perfect example) are more harmful to paying customers than they are to the pirates themselves, and how they should be focusing more on providing innovative new methods of delivering content (see Steam for a good example) instead. I've got a pretty good rough draft done, and all that's left is to touch it up and add a bit more content for the final draft.
In the spring semester I'll be taking a basic software design course. I was originally going to take a server side programming course as well, but that turned out to be too expensive for me to be able to handle comfortably.
Anyway, I think I'm going to go lay in bed with my eyes closed until the big shiny light bulb in the sky turns back on. Good night, and good luck. |

I repeat myself when under stress. I repeat myself when under stress. I repeat myself when under stress. I repeat myself when under stress. I repeat.. The more I look at it, the more I like it. I do think it's good. The fact is.. no matter how closely I study it, no matter how I take it apart, no matter how I break it down, It remains consistant. I wish you were here to see it.

| | The Mars Volta - Televators | ] | Let's follow the formula of everyone else, shall we? It's actually a pretty interesting topic, really. Where was I exactly one year ago? Well, that's pretty hard to say.
I believe at the time things were okay. I had just turned 19, and had pretty much just returned to high school after contemplating dropping out for a while. Everything was going pretty normally at the time, I think. It wasn't until the following months (November up through February I believe) that things started to get, well... a little complicated. I made some pretty stupid mistakes that I still regret now, and some things happened at the start of the new year that left me feeling pretty bitter for quite a while. I'm not going into it, because quite frankly it doesn't matter anymore.
A lot has changed. Sometimes I look back on the way things were then and wonder to myself how I ended up where I am now. Life's just full of surprises, I suppose. |
